Carly Rae Jepsen is a Canadian singer-songwriter who gained national attention after placing third in the fifth season of the “Canadian Idol” singing competition reality show in 2007. Born on November 21, 1985, in Mission, British Columbia, Jepsen then catapulted to international stardom with her 2011 song “Call Me Maybe,” which reached 400 million views on YouTube. The song hit No. 1 on both the U.S. and Canadian Billboard Hot 100 and also topped the charts in 19 other countries. The song also won “Top Pop Song of the Year” at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, “Best Song” at the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards, and “Single of the Year” at the 2012 Juno Awards. Jepson also was named “Rising Star” at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards and “Old Navy New Artist of the Year” at the 2012 American Music Awards.
