We're here to have fun and produce the highest quality fan sub possible.

Some of you are new to segmenting videos with Chinese hard subtitles, so I thought it would be helpful to offer you a basic guide to the process based on my own personal experience.

Unlike a "raw" video, these videos already have subtitles in Chinese! Therefore, we don't just time the segment to the voice... because it looks more appealing to time the segment with the subtitle that already exists on the screen.

Fortunately, this drama has a somewhat high quality of hard subbing, so it will be simple to follow these basic guidelines:


1. Time the segment with the hard subtitle (beginning and end).

You should cut the segment according to the subtitle that is already there, and not the voice. The hard subs have pretty good timing and length.

2. Keep sentences together: 1 sentence = 1 segment

(Roughly, as there are sometimes exceptions, like 2 short sentences = 1 segment)
Clearly, for reading and translating, this is a much better option than 1 sentence = 3 segments.

The trick is that the Chinese hard subs don't work the same way, and we often need to group several lines of hard subtitles into a single segment. Experience will help you get the feel for it. Just remember that *less is more.*

3. Please do not add extra "no voice" segments where they don't exist in the hard subtitling.

I know that sometimes we thing that their timing runs a little long, but I think (strongly) that it looks much more visually appealing not to have subs flashing, popping up, going down at different times.
