  • Gong Yoo and Jung Yumi in The Crucible by girlfriday | Wow, I was already excited to see Gong Yoo's dramatic turn in his first serious, weighty film, but this trailer blew me away. It gave me proper chills. This movie's subject matter is as dark as dark can be, but damn does it look GOOD. Here's a look at Gong Yoo and Jung Yumi in the upcoming film The Crucible, an adaptation of a novel by bestselling author Gong Ji-young, based on a true story about a rape at a school for the deaf. Gong Yoo plays a new teacher at the school who finds that his students harbor a lot of pain and distrust. Over time he slowly earns their trust and discovers the horrifying truth - that they've been abused,... More

  • Gong Yoo models for Mango Six by javabeans | All right, folks, here's the sitch: Until a certain blogger relinquishes her claim on my honey, I'm holding Gong Yoo hostage. GOT THAT, LADY? Speaking of whom, here he is modeling for premium dessert cafe Mango Six, which is a new concept cafe launched by the same CEO behind Cafe Bene and Hollys Coffee, and is a joint venture with entertainment agency N.O.A (who represents Gong Yoo). Despite being four years out, Gong Yoo is still best known for his 2007 drama Coffee Prince, and is trading on that image for this campaign. Which seems as good a strategy as any, since that image happens to be sweet and gentle, and appeals to the... More

  • Gong Yoo nearly splits his pants for High Cut by girlfriday | Gong Yoo (Finding Kim Jong-wook, Coffee Prince) poses for a spread (snerk) in High Cut, in a theme that's somewhere between "WTF you lookin' at?" and "I've got a surprise for you in my pants." You think I'm joking. But I'm not. So…we're going with Surly Bad Boy, are we? That's fine, all rumpled hair and silly socks. But why in every picture are you trying to split your pants? Is it a comment? Not that I don't respect a man who leads with his crotch, but you're making it really hard to look elsewhere. I get it. You're proud. That's nice for you. I'm pretty much guaranteed to love any photo of a gorgeous man in a rumpled... More

  • Gong Yoo, shedding his softer image by sassychef | September 18, 2011 | He's back! He went off to the military as a sweet loverboy boss in Coffee Prince, and came back a different man in his upcoming movie, The Crucible. If you've seen the trailer, damn - he takes his acting skills up a notch…or two…or three. In this Star News interview, Gong Yoo talks of his years in the military, what it's like to be back and shedding his image as the typical leading romantic actor. Gong Yoo has been typecast as the gentle and romantic guy in his previous projects. And why not? He was boyishly charming in Coffee Prince, and adorkably cute in Finding Mr. Destiny. But he has taken a huge leap in his... More

  • Please note: This article was written by Javabeans of Dramabeans. Filming has wrapped on Crucible and now we get our first look with these stills, featuring leads Gong Yoo (Coffee Prince) and Jung Yumi (Oki's Movie, Come Closer). The movie was announced several months ago and stirred my interest because I love both actors, and also because of the weighty subject material, which is based on a true story. The movie is an adaptation of a bestselling novel by respected writer Gong Ji-young, which is in turn inspired by the story of a rape at a school for the deaf. It's the kind of movie that I can easily picture Jung in - she plays a human rights activist with a strong sense of justice, and... More
