Military service has been looming for a while for Lee Jun-ki, but in a surprising turn, he has announced that he will enlist next week, on May 3. As a 1982-er, Lee would have to enlist by the end of this year, but he received his papers shortly after beginning his new film project.
This forces him not only to drop his upcoming drama Faith, which would have paired him with Kim Hee-sun and Philip Lee, but also his film Grand Prix, which has already begun shooting. Grand Prix is the horse-racing movie that co-stars Kim Tae-hee, and because of Lee's last-minute dropout, the producers are currently filming all the parts that exclude his character while hurriedly casting Lee's replacement.
Lee had attempted to postpone enlistment, as he had filled his work schedule through the end of the year, but was unable to do so.

Seoul , Korea - Actor Lee Jun Ki has been drafted and is to begin his military service on May 3.
According to one source, Lee was recently selected as a model for promotions for the Korean Horse Affairs Association and was having a meeting about a filming project when he received word from the Office of Manpower Administration that he could not delay his military service any longer. Because of this sudden turn of affairs, the filming for the promotion was canceled.
In a phone call on April 28, Lee's management agency told TV Report: "Lee Jun Ki is currently promoting his TV series Hero in Japan. It is true that we have talked about his military service, but we don't know the details yet. We will be able to clear this up as he comes back to Korea tomorrow."
Earlier, on April 19, a report of Lee's having been drafted appeared. At that time, his agency said, "He has received a draft notice saying that he has to report for duty within this year; however, he applied for an extension until after he finishes filming his current movie and TV series. We are waiting for an answer."
Lee Jun Ki turned 29 this year, making it difficult to put off his military service any longer. It appears that he will leave the movie Grand Prix, which he was half way through filming, and he might have to give up working on the upcoming SBS series Faith as well.
