Actress Han Ga-in has decided to take on a TV series which will be her first appearance in a historical drama.
A press release by her agency J.One+ Entertainment said on Monday that Han will star in "The Moon Bearing the Sun" (translated title) set to air in January of next year.
"Her character will be different from female characters you've seen in previous dramas due to how complex she is. This was the first role Han looked into and was satisfied about in that she'll be able to show a wide range of acting," an official with J.One+ was quoted as saying in the statement.
Han had been considering her role of female shaman in "Sun," telling of the love between her character and an imaginary king of the Joseon Dynasty, since late last month.
The show will be based on the novel of the same name by writer Jung Eun-gwol who wrote the original novel for hit KBS TV series "SungKyunKwan Scandal."
Han, 29, started on her acting career with series "Sunshine Hunting" in 2001. Her last role was in SBS TV series "Bad Boy" last year and she is currently filming movie "Introduction to Architecture" (translated title) opposite actor Uhm Tae-woong.
