Intelligent and straightforward, fourth prince Hongli applies what he learns in his study to help in state affairs which displeasures his father, Emperor Yongzheng. Under the guidance of Tian Shifu, the third and fifth prince gang up to please the Emperor and harm Hongli, causing the former to sway in his decision to pass the throne to Hongli. After a grave mistake, Hongli is forced to leave the prince's study but his hard work and determination finally wins the Emperor over once again.
