Can having your heart broken lead you on a path that you were meant to travel? Rinco (Kou Shibasaki) is a woman in her 20s who has always dreamed of opening up her own restaurant with a pot of miso that her grandmother left her when she died. But when Rinco’s boyfriend leaves her and steals most of her possessions, she is so devastated that she loses her ability to speak. Rinco returns home to her carefree mother, Ruriko (Kimiko Yo), with whom she has a strained relationship. But with the help of a family friend, Kuma-san (Brother Tom), Rinco converts her mother’s back shed into a beautiful – but unique – restaurant. Rinco only accepts one customer each day, and she slowly and lovingly prepares a special meal for that customer that has the power to transform the person’s life. “Rinco’s Restaurant” is a 2010 Japanese film directed by Mai Tominaga.
