About

How far would you go to fulfill an old friend’s dying wish? Im Na Mi (Yoo Ho Jung) is a wealthy housewife who goes about her daily routine but isn’t completely happy with her life with her self-absorbed husband and daughter. While visiting her mother in the hospital one day, she sees the patient name Ha Chun Hwa on a door and is reminded of her high school friend and the tightly knit group of seven girlfriends who were known as “Sunny” during the 1980s. Chun Hwa (Jin Hee Kyung) has become a successful businesswoman but she has terminal cancer with only two months to live. When Na Mi confirms that Chun Hwa is indeed her old friend, Chun Hwa expresses her desire to see Sunny reunited one more time before she dies. Na Mi hires a private investigator to track down the old group. During the 1980s when Na Mi (Shim Eun Kyung) first transferred to her new high school, she was bullied for her country accent but Chun Hwa (Kang Sora) stood up for her and brought her into her circle of friends. Kim Jang Mi (Kim Min Young) was an overweight girl who was obsessed with her looks but is now working as a struggling life insurance salesperson (Go Soo Hee). Hwang Jin Hee (Park Jin Joo) was the foul-mouthed daughter of a Korean literature professor who is now an unhappily married woman (Hong Jin Hee) with a cheating husband. Seo Geum Ok (Nam Bo Ra) was a smart student who aspired to become a writer but is now unemployed (Lee Yeon Kyung) and living with her overbearing sister-in-law’s family. Ryu Bok Hee (Kim Bo Mi) was a narcissist who aspired to become Miss Korea but is now working as a prostitute (Kim Sun Kyung) while her daughter lives at an orphanage. Jung Su Ji (Min Hyo Rin) was a mysterious young girl who seems to have disappeared and cannot be located. What did Chun Hwa have in mind for bringing the old friends back together and can they be found in time? “Sunny” is one of the top-grossing South Korean films of 2011 and was directed by Kang Hyeong Cheol. It was shown at film festivals worldwide and won numerous film awards.
