Can the elusive gold medal finally be in reach? Hyun Jung Hwa (Ha Ji Won) is South Korea’s best table tennis player. She has won numerous silver medals in world competitions but always seems to come up short against a tough rival on the Chinese team. A month before the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships in Chiba, Japan, North Korea and South Korea make the unprecedented decision to form one team for the competition, a decision that Jung Hwa and her fellow players on the South Korean team oppose. When the two teams meet up at the training camp in Chiba, the members clash in every way possible, including practice styles. The top player on the North Korean team, Lee Boon Hee (Bae Doo Na), has no patience for Jung Hwa. Can the united Korean team learn to get along long enough to compete for the gold? “As One” is a 2012 South Korean film directed by Moon Hyun Sung. It is based on a true story of the first-ever united South Korea and North Korea table tennis team that competed in the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships in Chiba, Japan.
