In the waning years of the Sui Dynasty, chaos reigns as rival clans scramble for power. Dao Ma (Wu Jing), a rugged bounty hunter and the empire’s second most-wanted man, accepts a seemingly routine escort mission to repay a debt to his benefactor, the chief of the Mo family clan. However, the job takes a perilous turn when he discovers that his charge, Zhi Shi Lang (Sun Yi Zhou), is actually the empire's most wanted fugitive. As word spreads, they are hunted across the unforgiving Taklamakan Desert by relentless assassins, greedy warlords, and imperial forces. Joined by the fierce warrior Ah Yu Ya (Chen Li Jun) and the power-hungry He Yi Xuan (Ci Sha), Dao Ma must navigate a landscape of political intrigue and brutal combat. With danger closing in from every side, can he survive the long, deadly road to Chang'an? This film was adapted from the comic of the same name by Xu Xian Zhe.
