A real-life gangster has always wanted to pursue an acting career. So what happens when Gang Pae (So Ji Sub), the gangster, meets Soo Ta (Kang Ji Hoon), the actor, in the back room of a bar? Soo Ta (a parody on the Korean pronunciation of the word “star”) brings his latest movie production to a halt when his realistic acting and staying-in-character tough-guy demeanor sends his co-star to the hospital. Director Bong (Ko Chang Seok) is desperate and agrees to hire Gang Pae (the Korean word meaning “gangster”), after Soo Ta remembers him from their chance meeting, to add realism to the film. However, Gang Pae only agrees to make the movie under the condition that all the fight scenes between Soo Ta and him be real – and not choreographed. But when the final movie scene calls for Soo Ta to beat Gang Pae in an epic fight, will the director get the ending he wants? “Rough Cut” is a 2008 South Korean film directed by Jang Hun. It won numerous acting and film awards in 2008 and 2009.
