Two struggling actors walk into a bar – and what ensues is a hilarious series of fake personas, gangster payoffs, and dangerous criminal activities that could be more than the men bargained for. Park Bong Su (Lim Chang Jeong) and Kim Wang Ki (Na Han Il) live in a warehouse and bum money off of girlfriends as they try to make ends meet until they can achieve fame and fortune as actors. But no matter how much they rehearse their lines in the bit parts they manage to get, the men just fail miserably in front of the camera, earning the ire of the director. To practice their craft, Bong Su and Wang Ki go into a gangster den and pretend to be a prosecutor and a police detective. They unwittingly start accepting payoff bribes from the criminals. What starts out as a way to practice their acting craft turns into dangerous illegal activity that could end their careers forever. “The Extra,” also known as “Extra” or “Extras,” is a 1998 South Korean comedy by director Shin Seung Soo, who also directed “A.F.R.I.K.A.” (2002).
