Put yourself in the shoes of the other person. A lazy “goof-off” husband is someone else’s precious son. A rude woman is another family’s precious daughter. This is the motto that Wang Bong (Jang Yong), a respected school vice principal, tries to instill in his large family. But as his meddling, materialistic wife, Lee Ang Geum (Kim Hae Sook), tries to control the lives of their four daughters and one son, the “daughter-rich” Wang family starts to face a series of challenges. Their oldest daughter, Wang Soo Bak (Oh Hyun Kyung), is a former beauty queen who is married to successful businessman Go Min Jung (Jo Sung Ha) and has two children. But when Min Jung’s business suddenly goes bankrupt, Min Jung is belittled by his wife and in-laws. Second daughter Wang Ho Bak (Lee Tae Ran) is the hardest working woman who is craving her mother’s love as she endures her difficult married life with Heo Se Dal (Oh Man Seok), a “goof-off” who has never held down a job despite having a law degree. Ho Bak is forced to support their family, as well as Se Dal’s mother, Park Salla (Lee Bo Hee) and younger sister, Heo Young Dal (Kang Ye Bin). Third daughter, Wang Gwang Bak (Lee Yoon Ji), quits her respected teaching job to pursue her dream of becoming a writer. She also falls in love with Choi Sang Nam (Han Joo Wan), but both families object to their relationship for very different reasons. Wang Bong’s large household also includes his two youngest children, Hae Bak (Moon Ga Young) and Dae Bak (Choi Won Hong), his mother, Ahn Gye Shim (Na Moon Hee), and her late-in-life son, “loser” Wang Don (Choi Dae Cheol), who has no prospects in life despite being in his mid-30s. As a wave of misfortunes befall the Wang family, Grandma Gye Shim repeats the mantra, “The Korean war was nothing compared to this! Ah hyo hyo hyo!” Can the family stick together during this difficult time? “Wang’s Family” is a 2013 South Korean drama series directed by Jin Hyung Wook.
