Two girls are forced to grow up on their own after their father leaves their mother for his mistress and their mother dies in a car accident. Anna Abella (Gretchen Baretto) then believes her younger sister, Angela (Bea Alonzo), died in a fire but she was actually kidnapped by men who make children work as beggars on the streets. Devastated over losing her sister, Anna is adopted by Ronaldo Valero (Robert Arevalo), a famous fashion designer, and renamed Victoria Valero. She was then sent abroad to study fashion design and became a supermodel. Angela was adopted by a couple who lives in the textile district of Manila and renamed Gelai Agustin. Determined to pursue both her and her sister’s dreams of going into fashion design, Gelai becomes a junior designer at Vera Couture, the company of Vera Cruz (Angel Aquino), her father’s old mistress. But when Victoria returns from Paris, she is determined to take over Vera’s company and exact her revenge on the woman for ruining her family. Vera fights back using Louie Villamor (Derek Ramsay), a man that both sisters love, as ammunition. Can Victoria and Gelai discover their blood ties and heal their past wounds? “Rivals (aka Magkaribal)” is a 2010 Filipino teleserye directed by Nuel Crisostomo Naval and Mae Czarina Cruz.
