Some people get insurance for the scary events that can happen in life — accidents, sudden illnesses or death — while some try to scheme the system out of some easy money. The members of a large insurance company’s special investigation unit are tasked with investigating suspicious claims to determine the legitimate claims from the fraudulent ones. Jo Kang Lee (Shim Eun Jin) is the top investigator in the department, frequently pulling all-nighters to investigate accident scenes, interrogating suspects so relentlessly that they always give in, and getting every detail of her cases right every time. Although unflappable at her job, Kang Lee has a habit of doing embarrassing things whenever she gets drunk with her coworkers. Her fellow investigator Park Chan Ho (Uhm Ki Joon) goes after booze, women and insurance con artists with equal fervor. Although his job requires diplomacy, Chan Ho talks too bluntly with customers that he suspects is trying to bilk the insurance company. Chan Ho also gets on the nerves of his new partner, Gong Chul Soo (Kim Heung Soo), who is trying his best to succeed at his first job after years of unemployment. Team manager Bae Dong Shik (Jung Kyu Soo) is suffering from a constant state of stress, constipation and hemorrhoids from the trouble that Chan Ho always causes and Kang Lee’s inability to drop a case that has already been closed. Can the team face the challenges of their jobs as they also harbor their own life secrets? “Special Investigation Team” is a 2008 South Korean drama series directed by Im Tae Woo.
