Lady Yuhwa (Oh Yeon Soo) becomes the concubine of Geumwa (Jun Kwang Ryul), the crown prince of Buyeo who takes in her son, Jumong (Song Il Gook), and raises him along with his own sons, Prince Daeso (Kim Seung Soo) and Prince Youngpo (Won Ki Joon). Jumong grows up as a weak and cowardly prince, overshadowed by his two stepbrothers. When Jumong accidentally sets fire to the Buyeo blacksmith workshop, alerting the Han to its existence, Jumong is stripped of his title and expelled from the palace. Taken in by a group of robbers, Jumong meets Lady Soseono (Han Hye Jin) and the blind old man Hae Mosu (Heo Joon Ho), who turns out to be his real father. Hae Mosu trains Jumong in fighting and archery. But when Daeso and Youngpo assassinate Hae Mosu, Jumong is determined to avenge his father’s death.
