A serial killer nicknamed “Gap Dong” strikes nine victims in a 12-km radius in the city of Iltan between 1993 and 1996. Police inspector Yang Chul Gon (Sung Dong Il) is convinced that the killer is a Ha Il Sik, a mentally challenged man who ends up committing suicide to prove his innocence. Seventeen years later, Chul Gon is a decorated officer who makes the surprising request to be reassigned back to Iltan so that he can end his career by solving the unsolved Gap Dong case. But assigned to his team is Ha Moo Yeon (Yoon Sang Hyun), the son of Il Sik, who became a police officer to also solve the Gap Dong case and clear his dead father’s name. Can psychiatrist Maria Oh (Kim Min Jung), who seems to harbor a strange fascination for Gap Dong, and Ma Ji Wool (Kim Ji Won), a webtoon artist whose webtoon “The Beast’s Path” seems to foretell a rash of new Gap Dong-like killings, help Chul Gon and Moo Yeon crack the case once and for all? “Gap Dong” is a 2014 South Korean drama series directed by Jo Soo Won. The series is based on the real-life Hwaseong serial killer case, which remains an unsolved case of 10 women who were raped and murdered from 1986 to 1991 in Hwaseong City. The 2003 film “Memories of Murder” was also inspired by the case.
