Usually it’s the children who misbehave and have to be taught a lesson. Not so for the Gung family.
Four siblings, who are all named after precious jewels, decide they’ve had enough of the immature behavior and financial mismanagement of their parents – Gung Sang Sik (Han Jin Hee) and Pi Hye Ja (Han Hye Sook) – and do the unthinkable by throwing them out. The two daughters – Bi Chwi (Go Na Eun), who starts a restaurant, and Ryu Bi (So Yi Hyun), a nurse – are left to run the household and support their brothers, San Ho (Lee Hyun Jin), who is studying for the bar exam, and Ho Bak (Lee Il Min), who is still in high school.
To help pay the bills, the siblings take in two boarders, who add a diverse mix to their colorful household – much like the variety of ingredients that make up the Korean dish “bibimbap.” The first is Kyle Huntington (Michael Blunck), the highly entertaining American who ran away from his family hotel business and came to Korea to try to become a monk. The second is the seemingly penniless Seo Yeong Guk (Lee Tae Gon), who actually is the son of a wealthy company chairman sent out by his father to build character by earning his way up from the bottom of society.
As Bi Chwi tries to be the voice of reason that holds her fragile family together, she finds herself falling for Yeong Guk. But complications arise when Yeong Guk’s younger sister, Kkeut Soon (Choe Ah Jin), also falls in love with Bi Chwi’s youngest brother, Ho Bak. Will Bi Chwi have to sacrifice her own personal happiness for the sake of her siblings?
