UPDATED: This is a highly compelling romance of knowing a person is someone you shouldn't love but making your own choice regardless of what should or shouldn't be. The writer does a big number on your emotions where the bad guys are concerned and portrays how the seat of power affects the one who sits on it. The dialogue is magnificent in conveying the main couple's deepest thoughts and feelings. It's not that violent, but for me I did have to close my eyes at some sections as I'm prescribed to watch my stress level. I rate the romance as very excellent. My husband watched some action sequences with me and enjoyed the drama as well. I liked the female lead in Radio Romance and Page Turner so I watched this to see more of Kim So Hyun. I remember Jang Dong Yoon from Solomon's Perjury and here he takes on a more diverse, mature role. He is absolute perfection mmmwah in this role, even showing his feminine side XD. This drama is VERY exciting and moves at a terrific pace for a historical romance! The male lead named Nokdu is trained in martial arts, handsome and has a mysterious hidden past. After a band of assassins try to kill his father and brother, he saves them and tries to capture the head assassin who escapes. In hot pursuit, he follows the assassin into a village of widows and a courtesan establishment so he must pose as a female in order to find who is behind the assassination attempt and what is their true motive. He shares a bedroom with the female lead who has secret plans up her sleeve to assassinate the king. This is an action adventure with royal intrigue, mysteries abounding, enticing comedy, amusing relationships, martial arts, gender bender, and a captivating storyline. Laughable moments interspersed with suspenseful action add up to a zesty, daring, jubilant tale of the dashing Nokdu and all he encounters on his journey of discovery. I was gung ho to see this lively tale! Thanks to the lightning quick work of the subtitles team, and to Viki who fulfilled the request of many of us who wanted to watch this drama! It's amazing how Nokdu can look so young as a gorgeous male yet appear so mature when imitating a feisty widow! Jang Dong Yoon is superbly talented in this drama as he pulls off the role of the quick change artist. This hilarious and adventurous historical romance is now added into my fan collection of makeovers: https://www.viki.com/collections/2347014l-make-overs-male-or-female-lead On Viki app click on my username to see the collection which features this show. It's a whimsical, wild tale that had me laughing with wonder and satisfaction while watching this windfall!

Are we all just victims of our fate with no way to comprehend or ever change our predetermined future? Do we really have choices in life or are we just puppets and robots forced to live out our existence? We grow up believing the world evolves around us, viewing our environment in such a way that we are the center of our own universe, then one day we get a rude awakening that life isn't just about us after all. And none of us really are the masters of our own making. This is the amazing premise of this spellbinding storyline. On the surface it appears to be a typical high school drama replete with handsome flower boys called the A3. One finds there are subtle, wry references to other high school dramas so memories of all those I've seen in the past came up for me, especially Boys Over Flowers/Meteor Garden. On an obvious front is the essential Kdrama full of any trope between the male and female lead. BUT ON THE DEEPER LEVEL EXISTS A WHOLE NEW STORYLINE UNIMAGINED BY VETERAN VIEWERS OF KDRAMA. And this is where the writing captures with excellent creativity! The girl we come to associate with reaches self-explanatory realization which casts her as an extra in her own world. Trying very hard and determinedly to thwart her predestination and predictions of future events, she keeps encountering the stronger will of her creator, coming against a brick wall of finding herself living out the motions. The extra has such spunk that she summons everything within herself to desperately fight the arranged engagement for business and money purposes. She does all in her power to prepare against always being the fall guy or scapegoat who simply enables the main couple. Persistently she goes against her stereotypical role of the sickly, weak supporting cast who is only there to serve the will of whatever higher power controls her life script. Finally one day hope and illumination arrives in the form of a mysterious stranger. With her usual bravado, she tries everything to discover his identity using her heart, heart monitor and her back. For me this is where the story really took off and I was enraptured to view her extra-ordinary fighting against going silently into the dark night of mediocrity and unfulfilled, meaningless existence. For a fantasy, I think this is among the best of its kind and the comic book world is reminiscent of W yet still in a distinction of its own. This is plenteous with ironic humor, the extra's witty comments being eloquent with tongue in cheek references and pointers. Her rising growth in consciousness as well as the twists and turns of her romance was fun to watch. If you get the message the writer is conveying, I found I was not simply entertained but this penetrated my thinking and complacency. These are only 30 minute episodes so it's just 16 full episodes. Lovely OST, far from average plot, beautiful cast, definitive fantasy, distinguished writing, exhilarating pacing, highly evocative theme, excellent hike in character development, illustrative of high school dramas but taking us where I have never gone before, while spanning emotions from despair, frustration to exultant joy. This romantic comedy deserves merit and its accolades.

UPDATE: I thought this drama was sweet as ice cream and very, very cute. I adored the main couple and had serious second lead syndrome. Terrific resolutions for everyone. The set up with prologues and behind-the-scene outtakes was original and interestingly different. A very comical, upbeat romance about an unlucky girl who never seems to give up trying in all areas of her strange life. When she was 15 years old, a pregnant woman cursed her that she would never have a love life. Yet the strongly determined, ever hopeful female lead confessed her love for 30 different guys! She suffers from narcolepsy and falls asleep at the trauma of rejection every time. Her imagination runs like a comic strip. The male lead is eccentricly picky, driven, forceful, very focused on his own methods, macho and insomniac. There are so many bizarre coincidences between them that one just feels her luck in love must be about to change, superstitious curses or not! A highly imaginative, comedic storyline with amazing stunts, cute premise, beautiful cast, fashionable wardrobe, interactive dialogue and loads of fun. The OST is catchy with many English lyrics. Thanks to the segmenter/subtitles team. You worked hard! It's so amazing that even the post-it notes were translated! Viki's volunteer subbers are an exceptional calibre! I don't think it's right to flag negative reviews because Viki is a place of free speech unless it is inappropriate language. People who have a negative opinion have a right to express it and we are free to dislike their comment. However, a rating of one due to subtitles is VERY INCONSIDERATE towards the people who worked hard on this production as revealed in the closing credits of the episodes, as it affects the drama's rating. The mini-story epilogue for episodes 7, 11, 14, 21 are an important feature that add to the viewer's understanding. This is a romantic comedy stressing that people with narcolepsy DESERVE to be loved too. This isn't a documentary on narcolepsy so I wouldn't dissect the illness but rather I enjoyed this romantic journey. It reminds me of a HILARIOUS American movie called The Wrong Guy about a girl with narcolepsy who found love, starring Jennifer Tilly and Dave Foley.
