How long can a person live waiting to be punished for something that happened a decade ago? Hidenori Yamane (Tadanobu Asano) and Nanase Ogawa (Minami) are roommates who sleep in the same bed but have an odd “brother and sister” relationship although they are not related. Hidenori spends every night peeping at Nanase from a hole in the attic while trying to think of ways he can exact his revenge on her for something she did 10 years ago. Meanwhile, Nanase numbly goes about her life waiting for the day that Hidenori finally takes action. When Nanase’s former classmate, Eiko Koike (Azusa Banzou), moves in next door with her deadbeat husband, Takao Banue (Takayuki Yamada), the foursome’s lives entwine in unexpected ways. “Vengeance Can Wait” is a 2010 Japanese film written and directed by Masanori Tominaga. It is based on Yukiko Motoya’s 2005 play, which was adapted to a novel in 2008.
