Is there anything more lowbrow than trot music, a form of Korean traditional pop music? Jang Joon Hyeon (Ji Hyun Woo), who considers himself a serious singer-songwriter and a genius musician, certainly doesn’t think so. But when he is suddenly hit with a sex scandal that brings his successful career to an abrupt standstill, President Jo (Yoon Joo Sang) of his management company gives him one chance to redeem himself and restart his career – mentor Choi Chun Hee (Jung Eun Ji), a young woman who is desperate to take care of younger sister and repay loan sharks after her debt-ridden father disappears, to become a successful trot singer. President Jo takes a personal interest in Chun Hee, the daughter of a former trot singer, although she has never entertained thoughts of following in her mother’s footsteps but is under tremendous pressure to make money quickly. When President Jo also takes a leave, entrusting the company to his son, Jo Geun Woo (Shin Sung Rok), the son also develops more than just a professional interest in Chun Hee. But can Chun Hee survive in the cutthroat music industry, especially when other trainees like Park Soo In (Lee Se Young) compete with her for both work and love? “Trot Lovers” is a 2014 South Korean drama series directed by Lee Jae Sang and Lee Eun Jin.
