Iqbal (Shreyas Talpade) is a deaf and mute cricket player with an amazing hand at bowling. While his sister, Khadija, is supportive of her brother’s talent, Iqbal’s father is strongly against it. Khadija helps Iqbal get into a cricket academy run by an influential former Indian skipper, Guruji (Girish Karnad). When Iqbal threateningly overshadows Guruji’s star performer, Kamal, whose father funds the academy, Guruji throws Iqbal out of the academy. Iqbal seeks help from the drunkard ex-cricketer Mohit (Naseeruddin Shah), who becomes his coach. Under his guidance, Iqbal manages to bag a place in Andhra Pradesh’s Ranji Team. His superb performance wins the state team many matches. Unhappy with Iqbal’s rising popularity, Guruji tries to bribe him to bowl badly in a match that will be inspected by Indian team selectors.
