Kuala Lumpur is the national capital and most populous global city with an area of 250km2 in Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur means “muddy confluence” in malay. It was named like this because originally people had settled down in the area at the confluence of Sungai Gompak (Gompak river) and Sungai Klang( Klang river) Before the 19th century Kuala Lumpur was just one of forests in Southeast Asia. However, at the time many traders and tin miners gathered to Kuala Lumpur when a vein of tin was discovered there. Also huge numbers of Chinese came to work. After that, the city was occupied by powers and started to be developed with increasing of influx of capital. The city became a megalopolis. No wonder 70% population of Kuala Lumpur are Chinese currently. When you hear the word of ‘KL’ think it as Kuala Lumpur. Malayans call the city like that just as ‘ JB’ of Johor Bahru. That is the way to call a city in Malaysia.
