Apple Crumble Bars

Today, I made Apple Crumble Bars using apples I received for Chuseok. I love crumbles, so I always eat just the crumbles on soboro bread. I made apple crumble bars for those who love crumbles and soboro bread like me. Serve the apple crumble bars cold and enjoy with milk. Much more delicious!

Ingredients for the Crumble (mold size 18X22 cm)

300g Cake Flour or All-Purpose Flour

5g Baking Powder


Pinch of Salt

110g Sugar

1/4tsp Cinnamon Powder

85g Butter

Ingredients for Apple Filling

2 Apples

80g Sugar

30g Butter

1/4tsp Cinnamon Powder

Lemon Juice


1) Blend Cake Flour, Baking Powder, Sugar, Salt, Butter and Egg in a food processor until large heavy crumbs are formed. If mixing by hand without food processor, rub flour and diced butter together until crumbs.

2) Break down big chunks of the crumbs using a fork and separate them. Using a spatula can form a large dough, so use a fork! Store in the freezer until ready to use.

3) Cook peeled and sliced apples, sugar and butter in a pan until softened.

4) Add cinnamon powder and a little bit of lemon juice, and keep cooking until most of the liquid is evaporated.

5) Line bottoms of pans with parchment paper, and put half of the crumble and press down with a spoon.

6) Spread the apple filling and sprinkle the top with the remaining crumble.

7) Bake in preheated oven at 180C for 25~30 minutes. (Temperature and baking time may vary by oven.)

8) Remove from the oven, cool completely and cut into bite-sized pieces. Enjoy with milk!
