In this episode, we introduce the Boat Pulling Festival, a Shinto Ritual of Mount Bandai in Fukushima. Mount Bandai is a sacred mountain where the agriculture god resides. Tokuitsu, a Nara monk, founded Enichi Temple in Mount Bandai in early Heian Period. He was an important figure who spread Buddhism in the Aizu region. The Boat Pulling Festival originated from Enichi Temple and has over a thousand years of history. The god watches over as shrine parishioners predict the crop work through tug-of-war using boats piled with rice bags.
