Four people’s lives are hopelessly entwined as the descendants of two opposing groups’ search for a map that holds the clues to national treasures stolen during the Japanese occupation of Korea.

Jang Dol Mok (Ji Hyun Woo) is the descendant of General Baek San, who led the independence movement against the Japanese occupation. When the father of Hong Il Gwon, a pro-Japanese businessman, stole all the nation’s most valuable treasures, Baek San and his followers stole them back and hid them in a secret location marked by a map. Il Gwon (Jang Gwang), now Chairman of the powerful Cheon Moon Group, is determined to find the missing map and recover the valuable treasures for his own greedy needs. In the process, Il Gwon’s actions results in the death of Deul Mok’s parents, and Jang Pan Soo (Ahn Kil Kang), the grandson of another liberation fighter, takes Dol Mok in and raises him like a son, alienating his own son, Min Jae (Nam Da Reum), in the process.

Believing his father is an unredeemable thief, Min Jae leaves home. He changes his name to Han Joon Hee (Kim Ji Hoon) and grows up to become a prosecutor, trying to go after the corrupt politicians, businessmen and law enforcement officials who are taking bribes from Il Gwon.

Kang So Joo (Seohyun) is the daughter of a police detective who covered up some crimes for Il Gwon but was mysteriously killed when he tried to do the right thing. Years later, So Joo also becomes a police officer but ends up losing her job as a result of a corrupt prosecutor. When So Joo proves herself to be unfazed by bribery attempts, Joon Hee hires her to work for him as an investigator for the prosecutor’s office to help him go after dirty politicians.

Yoon Hwa Young (Im Joo Eun) is Il Gwon’s granddaughter. Although she is a highly educated attorney, she must wage an uphill battle for her share of her grandfather’s inheritance from her half-brother, Lee Yoon Ho (Han Jae Suk), because she is the descendant of Il Gwon’s mistress.

Dol Mok, who doesn’t remember his real identity, becomes a highly skilled thief who goes after the hidden money of corrupt people like Il Gwon to give back to the people who have been wronged. But will his elaborate lifestyle help him find what he wants most in life — his estranged older brother, Min Jae?
