Can an average-looking, heavyset woman find true love despite the odds? Kim Sam Soon (Kim Sun Ah) seems to have the deck stacked against her. She is considered average looking, a little heavyset, and definitely an “old miss” at the age of 30. To add insult to injury, she discovers that her long-term boyfriend has been cheating on her and also loses her job as a pastry chef on the same Christmas Eve night. After a few embarrassing run-ins with Hyun Jin Heon (Hyun Bin), the young owner of Bon Appetit restaurant, Sam Soon is hired as the new pastry chef at Jin Heon’s restaurant. While squabbling from the get-go, Jin Heon and Sam Soon realize they can help each other out and enter into a contract to pose as boyfriend and girlfriend so Jin Heon’s mother will stop pressuring him to go on blind dates. But their pretend relationship gets complicated when Jin Heon’s ex-girlfriend, Yoo Hee Jin (Jung Ryu Won), returns from the United States — with Dr. Henry Kim (Daniel Henney) in tow — to win him back. “My Name Is Kim Sam Soon,” also known as “My Lovely Sam Soon,” is a 2005 South Korean drama series that won numerous awards at the 2005 MBC Drama Awards, 2006 Baeksang Arts Awards and the 2006 Seoul International Drama Awards, including the Grand Prize and Best Miniseries.
