For a tomboyish girl desperate to support her family and a lackadaisical heir to a food conglomerate, the lies they weave ensnare them in a complicated web of emotions. Go Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye), whose tomboyish mannerisms and androgynous good looks often get her mistaken for a pretty boy, bears the burden of supporting her free-spending mother and younger sister after her father’s death. Choi Han Kyul (Gong Yoo), the heir to a major food company, is under constant pressure from his grandmother to go into the family business and settle down to provide the next generation of heirs. As a result, Han Kyul is forced to go on many arranged dates and take over a run-down café. Eun Chan and Han Kyul’s worlds collide one day, and Han Kyul mistakes Eun Chan for a man. Han Kyul hires Eun Chan to pose as his gay lover so that he can get his grandmother off his back and put a stop to the blind dates. Desperate for money, Eun Chan not only agrees to the ruse but also maintains her male disguise to get a job at Han Kyul’s café. To revitalize the café, Han Kyul dubs it “Coffee Prince” and hires only good-looking men to work there. But Han Kyul begins to question his own sexuality when he develops a growing attraction to the charismatic Eun Chan. “Coffee Prince,” also known as “The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince” and “Coffee Prince’s Flagship Store,” is a 2007 South Korean drama series directed by Lee Yoon Jung. Based on a popular novel by Lee Sun Mi, the show garnered many television awards.
