While Ma Kwang Sook (Uhm Ji Won) should be the happiest person in the world after marrying her husband, he passes away just ten days after their wedding in an accident. Kwang Sook inherits her husband’s brewery – and its debt – but decides to take on the task of rebuilding it, especially as she’s now become the primary financial support for her four brothers-in-law. Despite the difficult journey ahead, Kwang Sook’s bright, lively personality helps her persevere. While she tries to get the brewery running, she meets hotel chairman Han Dong Seok (Ahn Jae Wook), who lost his own wife fifteen years ago. He’s stubborn and arrogant, but also deeply lonely. In 1938, during the Japanese occupation of Korea, Joo Ran (Park Bo Young) is transferred to an all-girls' boarding school to recover her health. Alongside her new friend Yeon Duk (Park So Dam), Joo Ran's health improves thanks to Headmistress Sanae's (Uhm Ji Won) special treatment program. However, she soon notices strange things happening to herself and other girls: several students disappear, and Joo Ran notices her body undergoing abnormal changes, including suddenly developing freakish strength. Joo Ran and Yeon Duk decide to investigate, sneaking into the headmistress' office in search of information, where they find Japanese documents detailing a program to test a performance-enhancing drug. Joo Ran and Yeon Duk can only draw one conclusion: they and their fellow students are unwitting participants in this human experiment, and there's no telling what might happen to them.

After finishing an exam, college student Jun Sang Won (Lee Ki Woo) happens to run into his ex-girlfriend Choi Young Shil (Uhm Ji Won). Over dinner and drinks, the two rekindle their old flame, and subsequently make a pact to kill themselves together, both disillusioned with the way life has gone for them. The short film strikes a chord with recent film school graduate Kim Dong Soo (Kim Sang Kyung), who sees part of his own life reflected in the screen. Coincidentally, the film was made by one of Dong Soo's mentors, and a series of coincidences allow him to meet actress Young Shil in person. Immediately obsessed with her, Dong Soo goes to great lengths to integrate himself into Young Shil's life, imitating parts of the film in the hopes that he can reenact the movie in his own life. What will become of Dong Soo's ill-advised quest?
