Du Chun is a Chinese actor. Born on May 22, 1981, he comes from an entertainment family. His father, Du Zhi Guo, is an actor, and his mother, Yang Li, is a dancer and dancing instructor. After making his acting debut in the 2003 television drama “Han Wu Da Di,” Du Chun is known for his many leading roles in dramas, including his recent roles in “The Legend of Incorruptible Stone” (2011), “Palace II” (2012) and “Ice and Fire of Youth” (2015). Du Chun also has sung the soundtracks to some of his television dramas, including “Dilemma” (2008), “Truthful” (2009) and “Love and Fight With a Terracotta Warrior” (2010).

In 1937, shortly after the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Imperial Japanese Army invaded Shanghai. After more than three months of brutal fighting, the Japanese army showed no signs of weakening. Suffering heavy losses, the Chinese army was forced to make an impossible decision: retreat and lose the city, or stay and risk being entirely overrun.&nbsp;

In an act of unprecedented bravery, Lieutenant Colonel Xie Jin Yuan (Du Chun) of the 524th Regiment, of the poorly equipped 88th Division of the National Revolutionary Army, led 452 young officers and soldiers into battle. Knowing their mission would undoubtedly fail, the brave young men followed their Lieutenant Colonel to the Sihang Warehouse. There they made their last stand against the 3rd Imperial Japanese Division, a division consisting of nearly 20,000 troops. Against impossible odds, these 400 soldiers held out against the relentless Japanese army for four days, providing the rest of the Chinese army the time they needed to retreat.

Though these brave men ultimately lost the battle, their stand at the Sihang Warehouse would bolster the morale of the Chinese army and earn them a place in history as legendary heroes.

Based on actual events, “The Eight Hundred” is a 2020 historical war film directed by Guan Hu.

During the turbulent times of the Sino-Japanese War and World War II, events unfold that will test loyalties and the endurance of the human spirit.

Lu (Ge You) is a ruthless Chinese mob boss whose alliance is tested when he is approached to collaborate with Japanese military occupiers. His brother-in-law, Watanabe (Tadanobu Asano), is a Japanese national who claims to be “Shanghainese” but is secretly working for the Japanese. Xiao Liu (Zhang Zi Yi) is a promiscuous actress and the wife of Lu’s boss. After an affair with her costar, Xiao Liu is sent out of the city by her husband. But when Lu assigns Watanabe to carry out the task, Watanabe ends up raping Xiao Liu and keeping her as a sex slave for years.

After the Japanese surrender in 1945, Lu finds Xiao Liu in a Shanghai hospice. They both decide they have unfinished business with Watanabe and decide to go search for him.
