Chen Chong, or Joan Chen, as she’s also known, is an award-winning Chinese actress, award-winning film director, award-winning screenwriter, and film producer. She was born on April 26, 1961 in Shanghai, China and made her acting debut in 1975 and was dubbed, “the Elizabeth Taylor of China” by “Time” magazine, not long after. In 1995, she debuted her first film as a producer, in 1998 she debuted as both a screenwriter and director, and brought home numerous awards for her work that same year. Since then, she has continued to produce, write, and direct, as well as continuing to appear in numerous films and television dramas, including “Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace” (2018) and “Sheep Without a Shepherd” (2019).
