Li Chen, or Jerry Lee, as he’s also known, is a Chinese actor and director. He was born on November 24, 1978 in Beijing, and made his debut in the entertainment world in 1997, when he took on his first role in a television drama. Since then, he has won multiple awards, and has appeared in numerous films and dramas, including “Running Man” (2015) and “Let’s Get Married” (2015).

The year is 2019 and in the Chinese city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, doctors begin admitting patients who appear to have fallen ill with some kind of disease with symptoms quite unlike any other illness. Perplexed by the outbreak, doctors at front-line healthcare clinics such as the Wuhan Jin Yin Tan Hospital – including Wen Ting (Yuan Quan), Tao Jun (Zhu Ya Wen), Wu Chen Guang (Li Chen), and Zhang Jing Yu (Zhang Han Yu) – find themselves treating hundreds of patients per day, all of whom appear to have fallen ill with the disease.

The illness turns out to be a new form of the coronavirus – later to be dubbed COVID-19. But these healthcare workers have no idea what kind of illness they are fighting, what kind of drugs might help them treat the sick, nor how to prevent it from spreading. Aware that they are standing firmly in harm’s way as the epidemic balloons into a pandemic that will bring the entire world to its knees, the medics have no choice but to fight the deadly virus head-on...

In 1937, shortly after the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Imperial Japanese Army invaded Shanghai. After more than three months of brutal fighting, the Japanese army showed no signs of weakening. Suffering heavy losses, the Chinese army was forced to make an impossible decision: retreat and lose the city, or stay and risk being entirely overrun.&nbsp;

In an act of unprecedented bravery, Lieutenant Colonel Xie Jin Yuan (Du Chun) of the 524th Regiment, of the poorly equipped 88th Division of the National Revolutionary Army, led 452 young officers and soldiers into battle. Knowing their mission would undoubtedly fail, the brave young men followed their Lieutenant Colonel to the Sihang Warehouse. There they made their last stand against the 3rd Imperial Japanese Division, a division consisting of nearly 20,000 troops. Against impossible odds, these 400 soldiers held out against the relentless Japanese army for four days, providing the rest of the Chinese army the time they needed to retreat.

Though these brave men ultimately lost the battle, their stand at the Sihang Warehouse would bolster the morale of the Chinese army and earn them a place in history as legendary heroes.

Based on actual events, “The Eight Hundred” is a 2020 historical war film directed by Guan Hu.
