Yao Chen is a Chinese actress and philanthropist. She was born in Shishi, Fujian, China on October 5, 1979 and made her acting debut in 2005. Since then, she has appeared in numerous films and television dramas, including the 2013 romantic adventure film, “My Lucky Star”.

Sheng Nan (Yao Chen) is over 30 and single – meaning many people in her native China consider her a “leftover woman,” someone who has little chance of getting married or having children. To make matters worse, she discovers she has ovarian cancer, and is short on money to fund the surgery she needs. She tries to put this right by finding a job as a ghostwriter for an older male millionaire who inhabits a massive mountainside mansion. Things get awkward when he appears to take an interest in her mother, who accompanies Sheng Nan on trips to the mansion.

Meanwhile, Sheng Nan learns that the operation will make it difficult to feel any pleasure during physical intimacy, and becomes keen to explore her sexuality before undergoing surgery. She begins to wonder just who she wants to partner with, but starts to consider possible candidates, including a young male friend named Si Mao (Li Jiu Xiao). In 1937, shortly after the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Imperial Japanese Army invaded Shanghai. After more than three months of brutal fighting, the Japanese army showed no signs of weakening. Suffering heavy losses, the Chinese army was forced to make an impossible decision: retreat and lose the city, or stay and risk being entirely overrun.&nbsp;

In an act of unprecedented bravery, Lieutenant Colonel Xie Jin Yuan (Du Chun) of the 524th Regiment, of the poorly equipped 88th Division of the National Revolutionary Army, led 452 young officers and soldiers into battle. Knowing their mission would undoubtedly fail, the brave young men followed their Lieutenant Colonel to the Sihang Warehouse. There they made their last stand against the 3rd Imperial Japanese Division, a division consisting of nearly 20,000 troops. Against impossible odds, these 400 soldiers held out against the relentless Japanese army for four days, providing the rest of the Chinese army the time they needed to retreat.

Though these brave men ultimately lost the battle, their stand at the Sihang Warehouse would bolster the morale of the Chinese army and earn them a place in history as legendary heroes.

Based on actual events, “The Eight Hundred” is a 2020 historical war film directed by Guan Hu.

Eagerly looking forward to his four children’s annual summer visit, recently widowed and retired geologist, Guan Zhi Guo (Zhang Guo Li), is bitterly disappointed when, one by one, his children call and cancel. Determined to make the most of his newfound freetime, Zhi Guo decides that rather than wait for his children to come visit him, he will instead, go visit them.&nbsp;

Setting out for Tianjin first, Zhi Guo is certain his youngest son, Hao (Chen He) will be happy to welcome him. Little does Zhi Guo know that Hao has been on assignment in Tibet for weeks and has yet to return. After waiting for Hao to no avail, Zhi Guo sets out for Hangzhou, to visit his eldest daughter, Qin (Yao Chen). Rather than being met by the happy family he expects, he finds his daughter miserably married to a man who clearly doesn’t deserve her. Met again with disappointment, Zhi Guo heads to Shanghai to visit his eldest son, Quan (Shawn Dou), only to discover that he too has failed to live up to his father’s expectations. With only one child left, Zhi Guo heads to Macau to visit his youngest daughter, Chu (Ye Quian Yun), but once again, he finds her living a life entirely different from the one he imagined for her.

Realizing all his children have been hiding their true lives from him, Zhi Guo begins to wonder where things first went wrong. Will this patriarch be able to bring his family back together or have they all branched too far from the family tree?

A heart-warming family comedy, “Everybody’s Fine” is a 2016 film directed by Zhang Yi Bai.
