Xu Zheng is a Chinese actor, director and filmmaker. Born on April 18, 1972, he is best known for directing, co-writing, co-producing and starring in “Lost in Thailand” (2012) and “Lost in Hong Kong” (2015), two of the highest-grossing films in China, and for acting in many comedy roles. Xu Zheng married actress Tao Hong, with whom he starred in the hit 2010 television series “Sunny Piggy,” in 2002.

Lao Bai (Xu Zheng) is a divorced, middle-aged painter who unexpectedly finds three women vying for his attention: the recently divorced Ms. Li (Ma Yi Li), who lives with her mother, the wealthy Gloria (Ni Hong Jie), whose Taiwanese husband has vanished, and his ex-wife Bei Bei (Wu Yue), who has returned to the scene with a bone to pick. The three women appear ready to duke it out for Lao Bai’s affections. But as they start to get to know one another, could their rivalry give way... to friendship? To celebrate China’s National Day, this four-part anthology highlights work by some of the country’s most talented directors. With settings ranging from the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1942 to the futuristic world of 2050, each director utilizes a different genre to present their own unique ideas of “home” and “country” while simultaneously paying homage to the dedication and sacrifice of those who have come before.

In Wu Jing’s “Windriders,” the commander of the Jizhong Cavalry Regiment, Ma Ren Xing (Wu Jing) must lead his unit into a brutal World War II battle, including his son, Ma Cheng Feng (Leo Wu). Moving away from battle and into a much more peaceful setting, Zhang Zi Yi’s “Poem” takes us to the 1960s, where hard-won technological breakthroughs change one family’s lives forever. Set in the late 1970s, Xu Zheng’s “Ad Man” is based on the true story of China’s first television advertisement. To wrap up the anthology, Shen Teng’s “Go Youth” tells the story of an emotionless bionic robot whose time traveling antics portray a bright hope for the future.

The third installment of the “National Day Celebration” trilogy, “My Country, My Parents” is a 2021 Chinese anthology drama film directed by Wu Jing, Zhang Zi Yi, Xu Zheng, and Shen Teng.

In a compilation of seven short films, seven directors explore the history of modern China and its people, going back to the 1940s and the aftermath of World War II, on the eve of the birth of the People’s Republic of China, through to the 1960s, the 1980s, the 1990s, and finally the 2010s, with stars like Song Jia and Ou Hao making appearances.

The first film focuses on an engineer struggling to organize a ceremony to mark the birth of the nation and the second tells the story of a love-sick nuclear scientist. In the third film, a young boy does what he can to help his neighborhood watch the gold medal match of the women’s volleyball competition in the 1984 Olympic Games.

The remaining films focus on more recent events, including two groups of people preparing for the handover of Hong Kong by the British colonial government in 1997. There is another Olympic story in a film about events surrounding the 2008 Olympics, which were held in Beijing, as a taxi driver decides to gift a ticket he had bought for his own son to another boy.

In the sixth film, two homeless boys watch a spectacular space mission in the 2010s. And in the final film, a female air force pilot attempts to ensure that a military parade to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second Sino-Japanese War goes off without a hitch

Divorced, alone, and on the brink of financial ruin, every day for Cheng Yong (Xu Zheng) is a struggle. Peddling imported Indian aphrodisiacs to try to make ends meet, Cheng Yong isn’t very successful, but it’s the only thing he knows how to do. Desperate to make enough money to make ends meet and pay for the surgery his ailing father urgently needs, Cheng Yong is willing to do just about anything. Naturally,&nbsp;when an unexpected opportunity presents itself, Cheng Yong is more than willing to take it.

Approached by Lu Sihui (Tan Zhuo), a socially awkward sufferer of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), Cheng Yong discovers he can make a great deal of money by smuggling a potent, but illegal, anti-CML drug from India into China. Realizing he can make the money he needs and help CML patients receive a treatment they couldn’t otherwise afford, Cheng Yong agrees to go along with Lu Sihui’s plan.&nbsp;

With his business now thriving, Cheng Yong expands his efforts, smuggling more medications into the country for the greater good. With an expanding sense of empathy for those who suffer from devastating illnesses, Cheng Yong continues his work, selling life-saving medications to those who would otherwise have to go without. But the police soon catch wind of a ring of illegal drug smugglers and vow to crack down on those caught selling them. With the police hot on his trail, will Cheng Yong be able to continue helping those in need?

Based on the real-life story of leukemia patient, Lu Yong, “Dying to Survive” is a 2018 comedy drama film directed by Wen Muye.

A psychiatrist who takes on a new patient gets more than he bargained for.

Dr. Xu Rui Ning (Xu Zheng) is a psychiatrist who uses hypnotherapy to treat his patients. A mentor refers a new patient to him, and he agrees to take her on despite learning that her former doctor found something a little unsettling about her.

The patient, Ren Xiao Yan (Karen Mok), claims that she can see ghosts. Rui Ning can’t figure out if Xiao Yan is lying or if she’s covering up something much more disturbing from her past.

Can Rui Ning help Xiao Yan, or will she end up revealing something about the doctor himself that he doesn't want known?
