Donnie Yen, born Yen Ji Dan, is an award-winning Hong Kong actor, martial artist, film director, producer, action director, and choreographer. He was born in Guangzhou, China, on July 27, 1963, and moved to Hong Kong at the age of two. By age nine, he was practicing a number of traditional Chinese martial arts, including t’ai chi and karate. At the age of eleven, he and his family moved to Boston, Massachusetts, and by age fourteen, he was so focused on his study of wushu, that he dropped out of school and traveled to Beijing to study with the Beijing Wushu Team. After years of moving between China, Hong Kong, and the United States to study martial arts, he made his debut in the entertainment industry, taking his first job as a film stuntman in 1983. The following year, he made his debut as an actor and has appeared in a wide variety of films and television dramas since, including “Raging Fire” (2021).
