Terada Takuya is a Japanese singer and actor. Born on March 18, 1992, he launched his entertainment career after participating in the 2008 “JUNON Superboy Contest,” making it to the final rounds. Takuya was signed by a Japanese entertainment company and then transferred to its Korean subsidiary in 2010 to debut as a member of the South Korean boy group Cross Gene in 2012. In addition to his musical activities, Takuya gained additional fame after participating in the Korean variety show “Non-Summit” in 2014. He also has starred in a number of television dramas and films, including the 2018 Japanese film “By Chance.”

Nan Sheng is a Chinese actress. Born on October 23, 1991, she made her acting debut in the 2014 television drama “City of Fantasy.” She has since appeared in a number of popular films and television dramas, including the Chinese drama “Princess Agents” (2017) and the Japanese film “By Chance” (2018).

Li Yun Rui is a Chinese actor who studied at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He made his debut in the movie “With You” (2015) and made his small-screen bow in the 2017 series “My Idol.” In 2019, he made an appearance on the TV talent show “Chuang 2019.” More recently, he has starred in the series “The Oath of Love” (2020).

When a door closes, they say another one opens in its place. Yu Nana (Nan Sheng) is a graduate student who has been pursuing her doctorate in psychology for the past eight years. While all of her college friends have secured jobs or married, Nana has been studying hard and preparing for her thesis. All her hard work seems to have been wasted when her thesis fails again and she is denied her Ph.D., plunging Nana into despair.

The next day, Nana receives a strange email from Sasai Eisuke (Terada Takuya), a Japanese businessman. Eisuke came across her picture on social media, and he wrote to Nana asking her to come to Yufuin, an idyllic small town in Oita Prefecture in Japan famous for its hot springs, to pose for a few photos. Nana is the doppelgänger for Eisuke’s fiancée, who died three years ago, and he has no pictures to remember her by because she hated taking pictures. In exchange for sitting for a few pictures, Eisuke promises to give Nana a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn.

Wanting to escape from her failures, Nana takes the stranger up on his unusual offer and sets off for a trip to Japan that will change her life.

“By Chance” is a 2018 Japanese film that is produced by a Korean production company and directed by Chinese director Liu Defu.
