In the 1920’s, Japanese military forces in Manchuria, China hunted down a handful of Korean liberation fighters willing to risk their lives to bring an end to the Japanese rule of Korea. Tasked with the mission to deliver funds to the Korean Provisional Government in Shanghai, Hwang Hae Cheol (Yoo Hae Jin) and a small band of subordinates set out at once. But the road ahead is anything but easy. Relying heavily on his skill as a master swordsman and the sharp eye of Ma Byung Gu (Jo Woo Jin), a sniper under his command, Hae Cheol and his troop make their way towards Shanghai. Along the way, Hae Cheol is reunited with Lee Jang Ha (Ryu Jun Yeol), a young squad commander who is currently on a deadly mission of his own: to bait a battalion of Japanese forces into a valley near Fengwudong. Teaming up, this rag-tag group of militiamen take on the Japanese forces in a fierce four-day battle that would go down in history as one of the most glorious moments in Korea’s fight for independence from Japan. Inspired by actual events, “The Battle: Roar to Victory” is a 2019 period action film directed by Won Sin Yeon.
