Determined to create a singularly perfect being, a mad scientist (An Hu) sets out to do just that. Endowing a highly developed humanoid robot with a sympathetic nervous system, the scientist hopes his new creation will satisfy all of his own personal desires. However, all of the scientist’s plans are waylaid after he learns that the robot (Ma Yu Jie) has somehow developed its own autonomous consciousness. Attached to its creator, the sentient robot wishes to understand what it means to love, and sets out to do just that; but its methods are unorthodox at best. Killing a young woman and using her skin as a disguise, the robot (Mi Mi) assimilates seamlessly into the human world. Not long after, she meets Wang Sheng (Duan Bo Wen) and his girlfriend, Su Xin (Bea Hayden). Hoping to learn from the couple what it means to love, the robot kidnaps Su Xin and takes her place alongside Wang Sheng. Despite growing closer to Wang Sheng, the robot Su Xin is still no closer to understanding love. As the robot attempts to unravel the mysteries of the human heart, the local police department, led by Detective Li Dong Bin (Liu Yi Wei), attempts to unravel the mystery surrounding the recent string of bizarre murders that seem to be targeting beautiful women. Will the police be able to stop this unusual killer before it strikes again? An action-packed thrill ride, “Almost Human” is a suspenseful 2020 sci-fi crime thriller film directed by Nan Zhang.
