Lu Qin Yang (Qu Chu Xiao) is a young, poor man who has struggled with his academic studies for some time. He loves Ling Yi Yao (Zhang Jing Yi) and dreams of earning enough money to create a happy home for her. She loves him too and hopes his dreams of success come true. Motivated by his hopes of a happy marriage with Ling Yi Yao, he decides to take a manual labor job, working his fingers to the bone in a bid to make money. But poverty proves to be a very difficult trap to work his way out of. Their financial situation becomes ever more precarious, but Ling Yi Yao is undaunted and decides to move out of her parents’ house so that she can live with Lu Qin Yang, despite her family’s misgivings about the relationship. Desperation kicks in and Ling Yo Yao starts to wonder if the love of his life would be better off without him in her life.
