Sandra Ma is the stage name of Ma Sichun, a Chinese actress. Born on March 14, 1988, she made her acting debut at the age of 7 in the 1995 film “The Winter of Three Persons," which starred her aunt, actress Jiang Wenli. Sandra Ma went on to star in the 2012 film “Time Flies Soundlessly,” for which she won the Best New Actress Award at the 14th China Film Society of Performing Art Awards, and is known for her role in the 2015 coming-of-age film “The Left Ear.” Some of her popular television dramas include “Refresh 3+7” (2012), “Love Is the Most Beautiful” (2014), “The Empress of China” (2014), “Close Your Eyes and Close to Me” (2015), “Love Me, If You Dare” (2015) and “Oh My General” (2017).

Ethan Juan is a Taiwanese actor. Born on November 8, 1982, he also goes by the names Ethan Ruan, Juan Ching Tien or Ruan Jing Tian. He also is known by his nicknames Xiao Tian, Si Xiao Hai, Ruan 7 Tian and Ruan GING Tian. He was first discovered in 2002 when he accompanied a friend to an audition. He began his career as a model and then made his acting debut in the 2004 television “Michael the Archangel’s Dance.” But it wasn’t until his role in the hit 2008 drama “Fated to Love You” that he became a star. Carina Lau is an award-winning Chinese actress and singer. She was on December 8, 1964, in China and moved to Hong Kong at the age of 15 to pursue an acting career. She made her acting debut in the 1984 television series “The Duke of Mount Deer” and then shot to fame after appearing in the series “Looking Back in Anger” (1989), one of the most-watched shows of all time. She has enjoyed a prolific career in both films and television dramas since. One of her most well-known roles is as the Empress Wu Zi Tian in Tsui Hark’s Detective Dee films, “Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame” (2010), “Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon” (2013) and “Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings” (2018). Carina Lau also released three music albums in the mid-1990s. Carina Lau married Hong Kong actor Tony Leung in 2008.

As the newly appointed head of the Court of Judicature and Revision, the Emperor Gao Zong (Chien Sheng) personally gifted Dee Ren Jie (Mark Chao) the powerful “Dragon Taming Mace”. Seeing the Emperor’s gift to Dee as a personal threat, the Empress Wu Ze Tian’s (Carina Lau) tasks the head of the royal guard, Yuchi Zhenjin (Feng Shao Feng), with stealing the mace from Dee. But tracking down the elusive Dee and the Mace soon proves next to impossible.

Furious that her plans have been thwarted, the Empress sees an opportunity to exact her revenge when an unknown force begins wreaking havoc across the empire. Blaming Dee for the ensuing carnage, the Empress demands Dee’s head. But Dee refuses to fall prey to the Empress’s plans. Seeking to uncover the truth behind the strange wave of crime sweeping over the empire, Dee soon finds himself up against a number of unbelievable foes.

Realizing his opponents are too powerful to defeat on his own, Dee recruits the help of Shatuo Zong (Lin Geng Xin) and the defected sorceress, Moon Water (Sandra Ma). With these new allies by his side, will Dee be able to stop the monsters responsible for this wave of destruction or will he ultimately fall prey to the powers who wield them?

The third installment of the “Detective Dee” series, “Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings” is a 2018 Chinese action-adventure fantasy mystery film directed by Tsui Hark.
