Welcome to Dongmakgol

During the Korean War in 1950, a North Korean unit led by Rhee Soo Hwa (Jung Jae Young) escapes an ambush and encounters Yeo Il (Kang Hye Jung), a free-spirited mentally challenged woman who brings them to Dongmakgol, a remote village untouched by the conflict. Two South Korean army deserters, Pyo Hyun Chul (Shin Ha Kyun) and Moon Sang Sang (Seo Jae Kyung), also find refuge in this isolated community where villagers are completely unaware of the war. As these rival soldiers from opposing sides converge in this peaceful settlement, tensions rise and the villagers' innocent way of life is threatened. The unexpected encounter challenges the soldiers' perceptions of enemy and friend, setting the stage for a unique exploration of humanity amidst the brutal backdrop of war. This is a 2005 South Korean movie directed by Park Kwang Hyun that offers a poignant look at the human cost of conflict.
