Sergeant Lim Kyu Nam (Lee Je Hoon), a North Korean soldier stationed near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), is about to be discharged after 10 years of service. However, he has become disillusioned with the Northern regime and is planning to defect to South Korea. Private Kim Dong Hyuk (Hong Xa Bin), a lower ranking soldier in the same unit, discovers Kyu Nam's intentions – and decides to stage an escape of his own. Unfortunately, Major Ri Hyun Sang (Koo Kyo Hwa) of the State Security Department is sent to their unit to investigate rumors of deserters and uncovers their plot. Because he knew Kyu Nam as a child, he covers up the incident by framing Kyu Nam as a hero who thwarted a defection. But Kyu Nam still dreams of leaving, and tries to defect once again. Will he be able to make his grand escape?
