During the Second Sino-Japanese War, Japanese soldiers occupied several cities in China, including Nan Jing. In a chance encounter, a Japanese military photographer asks postman Su Liu Chang (Liu Hao Ran) if he's able to develop photographs. Fearing for his life, Liu Chang lies, enlisting nearby photo studio owner Jin Cheng Zong (Lawrence Wang) to help. As Liu Chang and Cheng Zong develop the film, they realize that Japanese soldiers have been documenting their atrocities against the Chinese – and that much of the world knows nothing about this. Practically overnight, Liu Chang's life as an ordinary man changes into that of an unlikely hero, as he risks his own life to save others and reveal the truth of what's happening in Nan Jing. This film was based on the true events of the Nan Jing Massacre.
