The story of Jang Hui Bin, a royal concubine to King Suk Jong during the Joseon Dynasty, is a well-known story and cautionary Korean tale about the evils of greed and the lust for power.
In this reinterpretation of her life, “Jang Ok Jeong,” which was the concubine’s given name, the drama portrays her as a woman who was involved in making fashion and cosmetics during the Joseon Dynasty.
Born to Jang Hyeong and Lady Yun of the Papyeong Yun clan, Jang Ok Jeong (Kim Tae Hee) became King Suk Jong’s (Yoo Ah In) concubine and eventually rose to the rank of Queen Consort after Queen In Hyeon (Hong Soo Hyun) was deposed and forced into exile. Jang Ok Jeong’s son also became Crown Prince.
“Jang Ok Jeong” is a 2013 South Korean historical drama series directed by Boo Sung Cheol. It is based on the 2008 novel Jang Ok-jeong, Live for Love by Choi Jung Mi.
