Four women, in different stages of love and marriage, face idealistic vs. realistic relationships. Song Ji Hye (Nam Sang Mi), a naïve radio writer, dreams of an ideal love but finds herself embroiled in a love triangle between two good men, designer Kim Hyun Woo (Lee Sang Woo) and prosecutor Kang Tae Wook (Kim Ji Hoon). Hong Hye Jung (Lee Tae Ran) is a mother of two who is married to Tae Wook’s older brother and must always maintain the refined appearances expected of a Cheongdam-dong daughter-in-law. Song Ji Sun (Jo Min Soo) is a supermom to three kids who rules over her meek husband. Kwon Euna (Jang Young Nam) also is a wife and mother who suddenly discovers that her husband is cheating on her. How will these women behave in their respective predicaments? “Goddess of Marriage” is a 2013 South Korean drama series directed by Oh Jin Suk.
7/10: Warning, high levels of angst! If you like feeling the need to tear your hair out or throw whatever device you're watching this Kdrama on across the room at least once during every episode, then by any means, press play. Otherwise, I'd skip this one because it is 36 long episodes and there are many characters in this show that you just HATE or are so incredibly annoyed by, including the leads at times. Giving it an 7/10 is based on the fact that it is a pretty good DRAMA with all the necessary cliches of chaebol families (2 in fact), evil mother-in-laws (2 as well), a plethora of a-hole, condescending men, and sometimes incredibly weak and naive women. I enjoyed the leads' love story, but felt a bit confused about what lessons I was supposed to take away from their mistakes. The female lead blamed herself for the failure of her marriage, yet it was her husband who caged her like a bird and merely stood by and watched as she withered away. There were parts of the show where I felt that all the women were empowering themselves, but the end showed pretty much all of them only finding their freedom and happiness brought on by their men in one way or another. But, that being said, once I watched 3 episodes I had to watch them all; it is very addictive. If you're not in the mood for constant angst, move on!
