Does social class determine the outcome of your life? During the Joseon Dynasty, Chun Doong (Chun Jung Myung) is born into a nobleman’s family but his mother dies after giving birth. When his family’s servants search for a woman who can breastfeed the baby, they come upon a beggar’s hut and find an escaped slave, Map Soon (Yun Yoo Sun), who has given birth the same night to her son, Gwi Dong (Lee Sang Yoon). The servants take Map Soon away to breastfeed Chun Doong. After several days when Map Soon realizes that she will not be able to return to her own son and must work in the nobleman’s family as a nanny, she secretly switches the babies so that she can raise her own son as the nobleman’s baby, while Chun Doong is raised in great poverty in the beggar’s hut. Chun Doong grows up to become a vigilante who steals from the rich, while Gwi Dong grows up in wealthy comfort and becomes a police official. The two men share entwined fates while living on opposite sides of the law and for the love of the same woman, Dong Nyeo (Han Hi Hye), while the poor Dal Yi (Seo Hyun Jin) has always loved Gwi Dong although she believed that he is too far above her own social standing. How will the truth impact the two men’s lives? “The Duo” is a 2011 South Korean drama series directed by Im Tae Woo.
