Pledge of Allegiance

In the early years of the Chinese Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), a fierce battle for the Imperial throne has thrown the court into turmoil. Loyalties are divided, with various parties vying for power. Into this chaos steps Li Wu (Zhang Yun Long), a thief and sometime conman. But when he disguises himself as a law enforcer to gain access to a noble estate, he soon realizes he has bitten off more than he can chew. He is involved in a misunderstanding that leads him to become one of the royal Embroidered Uniform Guards. And it is here that he encounters Lu Zheng (Chen Ruo Xuan), a young man who desires nothing more than to rise high in the ranks of the guards. The duo strikes up a friendship. And with their combined wits and fighting skills, they create a formidable unit. Their paths also cross with those of the courtesan Zhang Jun Qing (Ma Yu Jie) and the assassin Shu Teng (Sun Yi) When they are sent off in search of rebels, however, all manner of secrets threaten to come to light. Conspiracies and plots are being hatched at every turn. Will these two young men fall victim to palace scheming? And will their own schemes and secrets prove to be their undoing? “Pledge of Allegiance” is a 2023 Chinese drama series that was directed by Cao Hua.
