Synopsis
During the tumultuous second Manchu invasion of Joseon, noblewoman Yoo Gil Chae (Ahn Eun Jin) dreams of a love that mirrors the tales in her favorite romance novels. However, her first love, Nam Yeon Jun (Lee Hak Joo) is engaged to her best friend Kyung Eun Ae (Lee Da In). Gil Chae’s romantic pursuits take a turn when she meets Lee Jang Hyun (Namkoong Min), a mysterious man who appears aloof but harbors a deep, unyielding love for her. As war engulfs their homeland, tearing apart families and forcing unimaginable sacrifices, their paths repeatedly cross. While Gil Chae is initially dismissive of Jang Hyun and still holds onto her feelings for Yeon Jun, she begins to see his true character as he selflessly protects her and those around him. Will they manage to survive the perils of war and find love in the darkest of times?
