Middle-aged salaryman Ichiro Inuyashiki lives a quiet, lonely life, shunned by both his family and coworkers. When Ichiro learns that he has stomach cancer and only months left to live, he's understandably distraught, and finds himself weeping in an abandoned field late at night.
