The destined heir of his beloved master, Sifu Cheung (Roger Yuan), Danny’s destiny seemed apparent; all he had to do was reach out and take it. But life has a funny way of taking unexpected turns and the brilliant future Danny saw stretched out before him, never managed to pan out. Now a middle-aged divorcee trying desperately to patch up the rocky relationship he has with his son, Danny has all but forgotten his days as a promising martial artist. But when he learns that Master Sifu is dead, Danny’s past comes rushing back to him. Saying farewell to his beloved master, Danny finds himself reunited with his old sparring buddies, Hing (Ron Yuan) and Jim (Mykel Shannon Jenkins). Convinced there was more to their master’s death than sheer coincidence, the three friends set out on a path to prove he was murdered and avenge his death. But time has not been kind to any of them and middle-age has started to take its toll. Once known as the formidable fighting trio, the Three Tigers, have come a long way from their glory days as lean, mean, fighting machines. Juggling dead-end jobs and dad duties, the Three Tigers may move a little slower than they once did but that doesn’t keep them from seeking vengeance for their fallen master. Coming face to face with old rivals and the cruelties of time, do these former fighters have what it takes to avenge their master’s death? A modern tale with an old school Hong Kong martial arts comedy film feel, “The Paper Tigers” is a 2020 action comedy film written and directed by Quoc Bao Tran.
